Woodburn River Precinct and Community Building, NSW

Woodburn is a location that is facing great change – with a highway by-pass being constructed and the town needing to pro-actively respond to its future challenges. Recognising the challenges ahead, Richmond Valley Council engaged with their community and established the needs and desires for the future.
Local Architect South Coast, Ayling and Drury and JN consulting engineers were all engaged as a project team to document the project for construction. Elements of the foreshore park included a Community and Amenity Building, lawn and picnic terraces, adventure and nature play space, boardwalk and pontoon, village green and memorial, and a Ski Clubhouse. The project is now progressing to construction. The Community Building included amenities, information centre and community meeting room and kitchen. The building responds to its context with large shaded external areas for gathering and flexible cross ventilated rooms with robust finishes internal finishes to allow a mixture of uses.
