A contemporary mountain hut high on the slopes of Mt. Wellington, anchored into a narrow ledge along the 387m contour.
A long spine retaining wall links the neighboring exotic garden, through the building, to the unbroken sub-alpine bush, locking mountain and house together.
The house connects you to the powerful landscape with a glazed double-height glazed living area, while you can retreat deeper into the more intimate, finely-detailed and enclosed spaces behind.
The materials and finishes are natural, raw and simple; standard off-the-shelf ply, timber and blockwork, on a polished and heated floor slab.
The house asserts itself strongly in the dramatic lo-cation, but is respectful of and connected to it. The interior is calm, warm, refined & gently luxurious.
